Darvin Furniture & Mattress campaign focused on domestic abuse awareness
Two-week campaign supports 'inspiring work' at Crisis Center

Orland Park, Ill., February 28, 2024 — Darvin Furniture & Mattress President Will Harris says it was an easy decision for the iconic 103-year-old retailer, Chicagoland's largest furniture store, to get involved with the Crisis Center for South Suburbia's new Domestic Violence Community Education Campaign. The non-profit community organization has an aggressive goal to double its community education efforts so no one will ever lose a life to domestic violence because they didn’t know where to go for safety and help.
To bring awareness to domestic violence and the Crisis Center for South Suburbia's efforts, Darvin has launched an in-store and online campaign Not One More Life Lost, running Feb. 27 - March 11. Encouraging Darvin customers to 'Stand Together,' the campaign highlights little-known facts about domestic violence, its impact on the region, and how to donate. Darvin's efforts also provide resources for anyone who may need immediate help.
"The work done at the Crisis Center for South Suburbia is nothing short of inspiring," says Harris, who was the first of many local businesses to commit to assisting the non-profit at its recent Gala fund-raiser held in Tinley Park, Ill. "We may be in the furniture business, but we are also in the business of taking care of our customers and supporting the communities we serve."
According to Lorri Nagle, Advancement Officer for the Crisis Center for South Suburbia, she believes the business community in the south suburbs of Chicago should be part of the solution to domestic violence. Darvin is the first local company to donate $1,000 to help the Crisis Center increase community education efforts.
“I was not surprised that Darvin became the first local company to step up and help expand our community education efforts so no one else will lose a life to domestic violence," says Nagle. "They’ve always been there for survivors."
"When you're in business for one hundred and four years, you form a relationship with generations of customers and their families. At Darvin, we take that responsibility very seriously. Any time we can facilitate shining a bit of light on a serious subject like domestic violence – we want to take the lead," says Harris. "Sadly, there is a real need for the work being done at the Crisis Center. Darvin is proud to be a small part of helping local families in need."
The Crisis Center for South Suburbia provides emergency shelter and other essential services for individuals and families victimized by domestic violence and addresses the societal issues that contribute to domestic violence.
“Darvin’s commitment to the community shows in the unwavering support of Will Harris and his team. They are role models for corporate social responsibility,” says Nagle. “Our efforts to double domestic violence community education can only be done with the support of our business and community leaders. Darvin has always taken a positive role in the well-being of our community so it’s no surprise they wanted to be at the forefront of this campaign.”
